FACING THE CHALLENGE OF AI TO REPLACE MAN POWER, OPPORTUNITIES FOR TRANSFORMING THE YOUTH

Teal Belt Consultants
25.04.2018 09:00
AI will replace man power and lead to a lot of job losses. Will the opportunities for youth in Hong Kong be further reduced? How can we help low qualification underprivileged youth, with low motivation, in entering job market? It will be a hot topic for discussion: how to even help them to gain upward mobility in jobs not easily replaced by AI.

People welcome a fair and open society with upward mobility and a socio-economic harmony. However, upward mobility window in the world is narrowing while wealth gap is widening. Precarious employment environment prevents wealth accumulation which leads to persistent poverty and even inter-generation poverty. Uplifted employability for decent jobs is a means to alleviate poverty.

University degree is just a basic qualification of employability about the candidate’s intelligence, work ethics and conformity. However, employer may also consider a candidate without university degree but demonstrates genuine proactive employability behaviors. Having said that, youths with no university degree are less compatible in employability for more complex jobs under globalization and rapid technology advancement. Employability landscape has been changing fast and becoming even steeper for the underprivileged youths due to their inability to complete university degree and lack of social network for decent jobs.

HKCNP is going to conduct a press conference to release the findings of the survey. The report suggests a collaborative and interactive model for schools, corporations, churches, organizations and parents to provide youths directions for a better work self and behavior for future career.

Content:
1.     The study is to share the trend of jobs that AI cannot replace.
2.     Illustrate difference in opinion between youth and parents towards possessed job skills and required job skills for landing on the future employment. 60% of youth interviewees believes that less job skills are required than what the employers look for.
3.     Sharing on how to help low qualification and low motivation underprivileged youth to integrate into job market and maintain job stability.
4.     How to change the wrong general opinion on choosing low entry qualification and technical job as a career.

We sincerely invite you to attend the press conference to find out more and support the work of HKCNP.
