(Hong Kong, 29 July 2019) – Mr Brown, which opened to tremendous fanfare in March on Wan Chai’s Ship Street, continues to impress diners with its boldly-flavoured and diversely textured dishes. Now, with a new 3-course lunch set that is filled with rustic reverence, the buzzy grill and smokehouse gives guests every reason to forego those sad excuses for a salad at lunchtime.
For HK$160 and no service charge, guests can easily upgrade their midday meal with three appetisers and six main dishes to choose from, in addition to a sweet treat. Think, homemade pretzel bread with a dip or plump pork croquettes, a beef lasagna that hits the spot, and a light summery panna cotta; available every day of the working week (Monday to Friday) from 12:00 noon to 2:00pm.
Being the considerate man that Mr Brown is, the lunch menu is thoughtfully prepared; cleverly folding in various regions touches, thanks to Head Chef Asher Goldstein’s culinary and cultural background, that are enhanced by his expertise in wood-fired cooking. The result of which brings out fresh nuances of flavour to the hearty lunch.
To kick-start the meal, lunchers can opt for thin slices of smoky roasted Eggplant Carpaccio with light dollops of yoghurt and burnt green chilli to wake up the tastebuds, golden brown Smoked Pork Croquettes served with a seriously addictive piri piri sauce, or the undeniably flavourful and luscious Whipped Mackerel Cream adorned with salmon roe and sliced celery for texture, and warm homemade pretzel bread for dipping.
The main course line-up includes even more crowd-pleasing dishes in generous portions to delight all the variety seekers. Options include Barramundi, a meaty white fish with smoked red pepper, olives, and fragrant pine nuts, or the perfectly Grilled Vegetables spruced up with a littlefeta and dressed in piquant salsa verde.
For the carnivores, Smoked Chicken Thigh smothered in the goodness of toasted tahini and tomato is a sure bet, while the Smoked Beef Lasagna takes the wholesome Italian classic to a whole new layer — with fresh tomatoes and melted Monterey jack cheese.
Throwing the generic sandwich out the window, Mr Brown offers a more exciting rendition with the ultimate Sanger (the Australian term for a sandwich) filled with a crispy yet succulent Jerk Pork Katsu; complemented by mustard, mayonnaise and stacked with iceberg lettuce.
To end, few will fail to appreciate a sumptuous dessert and at Mr Brown it’s Panna Cotta infused with the wonderfully bright aromas of lemon verbena, topped with refreshing apple and mint. The meal can also be topped off with a nice lunch cap with choices including sparkling, red and white wines, rosé, beer and mocktails for a painless HK$50 each. But for those on their best behaviour, espressos and americanos are also available at HK$30.
Relaxed and informal, Mr Brown has all the best qualities of a neighbourhood restaurant, making it the perfect place to eat with friends or make new ones on lunch break. With a warm hickory tone and industrial style interior, the spacious wood-wrapped dining room is also primed for business meetings, but has cosy nooks and vibe to spare for casual get togethers too.
Lunch reservations between 12-2pm are now being accepted for weekdays.
