Winter Solstice Festivities at Hutong & Dim Sum Library
(Hong Kong, 23 November 2017) This year Hutong and Dim Sum Library have created a selection of epicurean delights to celebrate Winter Solstice. Renowned as one of the most important dates in the Chinese calendar, originating back to the Han Dynasty around 2000 years ago; it marks the shortest day of the year. Both restaurants have created special dishes that focus on nourishing the body with warming ingredients, echoing the principles of the yin and yang philosophy. The festival falls during the 11th lunar month and is a time to bask in a warming reunion with family and friends while celebrating unity and prosperity with a lavish feast consisting of dumplings, glutinous rice and red bean.
Hutong – Head Chef Chau Sai To and his talented culinary team present a 6-course “Lao BeiFang” lunch menu. Celebrate this important time of the year surrounded by colleagues, friends and family. Guests can select three appetisers and two main dishes accompanied by either traditional Hutong dan dan noodles or Seafood fried rice with salty fish & ginger. Hutong’s signature dessert Homemade tofu panna cotta, Oolong ice cream or Red bean mochi are offered as dessert. Dim Sum Library – Winter Solstice is the season of gatherings, enjoy a memorable family lunch with innovative Chinese cuisine. Dim Sum Library has crafted new dumpling masterpieces including steamed Wild mushroom & black truffle and Sea bass & garlic. The Champagne Lobster dumpling is a creative take on traditional Cantonese dim sum. Dumplings are a customary food eaten during the Winter Solstice Festival, the reason for this stems from Chinese folklore. An eminent Han Dynasty physician noticed poor farmer’s suffering from frostbite on their ears during the cold winter months and ordered that they were given dumplings made with lamb and other warming (or yang) ingredients. In Chinese the word for dumpling is jiaozi 餃子 which sounds like jiao ‘er 嬌耳 meaning ‘tender ears’. The tradition has continued to this very day.
For a sweet indulgence, enjoy the newly introduced Golden black green rea lava buns brushed with gold and Longjing panna cotta. Dim Sum Library’s elegant ambience and attentive staff will guarantee a memorable celebration for you and your loved ones this winter.
