Press Release
(Hong Kong, 14 May, 2019) – This May, dim sum destination and Instagram hotspot, YUM CHA, is introducing three all-new characters to its beloved line-up of buns.
Famous for playful and innovative takes on traditional dim sum, YUM CHA’s signature yellow Hot Custard Molten Bun and BBQ Piggy Buns are an Instagram favourite and have become a global sensation. Three new characters now join the family of buns for the ultimate playful and delicious dim sum experience.
Three adorable new buns are hand-crafted to resemble miniature characters, each with individual personalities, distinctive looks and delectable tastes.
The new Steamed Red Bean and Mochi Bun is a sweet but shy addition. Filled with rich red bean and chewy mochi, this little feminine pink parcel is made with the natural pigment from beetroot and provides a delicious dessert for those looking for true yum cha flavour.
Hot and delicate, the Green Tea Custard Molten Bun is a little cheeky character. The taste incorporates the celebrated flavour of green tea, within YUM CHA’s signature molten custard filling. Deliciously hot, this colourful green tea bun is decorated with a little sassy kissing face.
The only savoury bao in the family, the Steamed Cabbage and Pork Bun, is a boy bun and a funny character with cute wide eyes and a head topped with tasty pork floss that mimics wild hair. The charcoal flavour of the bun really offsets the steamed Chinese cabbage with quality pork.
Made in-house daily, the new buns are served in threes and served to the table inside traditional dim sum baskets (HK$49 each).
Alongside the bao, the Baked Angus Beef Puffs (HK$49 for 3 pieces) are a new addition, with a crispy exterior coated in charcoal and edible gold powder, containing a spicy hot filling of quality fried Angus beef.
For those with a sweet tooth, or to end the yum cha meal with a beautiful palate cleanser, new desserts come in the form of watermelon triangles with a twist; Watermelon Jelly with Dried Plum Powder (HK$39 for 3 pieces). Made entirely from jelly, the red triangle comes from the fresh watermelon flavour, with coconut juice used to create the green and white ‘skin’. Black sesame seeds are set into the jelly to look like watermelon seeds, and the bite-sized fruit slices are then dipped in plum powder to add a sweet and sour finish.
First introduced exclusively to Mong Kok and Tsim Sha Tsui YUM CHA from 6 May, these new dishes will be available in Central and Causeway Bay branches by 8 May 2019. With ‘Insta-worthy’ presentation and innovative Chinese recipes, these new additions to the menu are sure to bring smiles to family feasts.
