Macey & Sons’ latest sale of antique jewellery & silverware and rare, luxury collectables
under the hammer on May 30, 2018 at Lot 88, Central
(Hong Kong, 10 May 2018) – Boutique Hong Kong auctioneer Macey & Sons puts its latest sale of antique jewellery and silverware, and rare, luxury collectables withAsia specialist Lee Young, as seen on the BBC Antiques Roadshow, on the rostrum on May 30.
The ‘celebrity’ auctioneer is co-orchestrating sales with Macey founder Jonathan Macey in a collaboration with Duke’s auction house, where he is now Managing Director and Head of Asian Art.
The auction is at Lot 88 in Central, starting from12 noon and going simultaneously live online at auction website www.the-saleroom.com.
A diverse range of lots for sale include period jade, important silver seldom auctioned in Hong Kong, a striking selection of fine diamond and opal jewellery, ancient gold rings, collectable handcrafted ladies handbags, and Chinese, Indian, Tibetan and South-East Asian artefacts, rare clocks, coveted single malts and artworks including a School of Rubens portrait.
Highlights from the auction include a superb selection of important silver seldom offered by auction in Hong Kong, with a George 111 silver tray made in 1819 by Philip Rundell, London bearing the coat-in-arms of Sir Richard Sutton considered a masterpiece of English silverware, valued at HK$220-250,000.
A pair of massive French silver-gilt candelandrum crafted by noted 19th century Paris silversmiths Gustave Keller Freres is expected to fetch HK$400-500,000.
A stunning, exclusive collection of handcrafted ladies handbags includes a green crocodile bag made especially for the Hong Kong opening of French handbag atelier D’Auchel, valued around HK$140,000.
A striking private collection under the hammer includes Chinese artefacts, and Indian, Tibetan and South-East Asian objets d’art; along with horological items including a rare English Marquetry 17th Century Long Case Clock, French Ormolu and marble three piece clock sets. Artworks include a school of Rubens portrait, 18th century paintings and a painting by Fang Zhaoling and Lin Fengmian.
Fine and antique jewellery is headlined by a ‘Clover Leaf’ yellow diamond and white gold necklace, with 43.23ct of diamonds, and ‘important’ diamond ring with petal-shaped diamond plaques – both estimated at over HK$1 million.
A collection of period jades and ancient gold rings will also be featured, along with wine & whisky desirables headlined by a crystal decanter of 1937 Macallan Glenlivet estimated at HK$35-40,000; and one of only 208 bottles from the ‘Glenfiddich 1977 34 Years Rare Collection’, valued at HK$28-30,000 and a hard-to-find Japanese 35-year old Whiskey.
Viewing of all auction items including the fine diamond, coloured stone and opal jewelery collection to name a few prior to the auction is at Lot 88 from May 25-29 (10am-9pm) by appointment only.
