High stress, unfamiliar surroundings, erratic schedules – 46% of individuals worldwide* are not getting enough sleep on a daily basis and many more are losing precious snooze hours while travelling. Whether you are travelling for pleasure or on business, being on the road for extended periods of time inadvertently messes with your sleep schedule, especially when you are travelling across time zones. Here are six great sleep tips from Accor for a good night’s rest.
Swissôtel The Stamford – Vitality Room
1. Warm mood lighting
As the sun sets, guestroom lighting is essential to help lull you to sleep. At Swissôtel, the Vitality Rooms feature circadian lighting technology that is uniquely designed to adjust to each individual’s mood and lifestyle, adapting to one’s circadian rhythm which in turns boosts overall health and wellbeing. Vitality aims to enhance the natural energy and healthy lifestyles of Swissôtel guests in providing a holistic wellness experience from the moment guests arrive at the hotel.
Raffles Dubai – Calming amenities to welcome a restful night’s sleep
2. Indulge in nightly aromatherapy
Using calming and relaxing essential oils before your intended bedtime can potentially help to induce sleep but it is difficult to bring along the whole set-up comprising the diffuser, oils and more while being constantly on the move. Raffles Hotels & Resorts have recently partnered with luxury skincare brand, Aromatherapy Associates, to create a Deep Relax Oil that is unique to the brand. Made from a blend of vetiver, sandalwood and chamomile – ingredients that help calm the mind and restore regular sleep patterns – this oil is custom designed to promote sleep and alleviate the restlessness associated with jet lag.
Sofitel Guiyang Hunter – Imperial Suite
3. Pamper yourself
Nothing is more comforting than a warm and plush bed after a day out, sightseeing or at work. Designed to perfection for the best sleep-time bliss, the Sofitel MyBedTM is an ideal ensemble of plush mattress and feather beds, cosy duvet, fluffy pillows and luxurious linen, allowing travellers to dream away in the utmost comfort. Their thoughtful Sleep Menu also offers additional pillow choices, delightful bedtime treats and other soothing offers. Fairmont Singapore – SMARTfit Interactive Training Wall
4. Stay Fit on the Road
Why get weighed down by your trainers? At Fairmont Hotels & Resorts, Fairmont Fit is a favourite program for travellers in the know. Conveniently available to frequent guests, Fairmont customers arrive at their hotel room to find the perfect pair of running shoes and work-out gear – in just the right size. A yoga mat and stretch bands are also available on request, meaning guests don’t need to choose between traveling light and maintaining their fitness goals while on the road. The latest fitness centre at Fairmont Singapore hosts an in-house team of certified personal trainers, exercise equipment integrated with the latest technology and a range of group classes from Yogailates to ABT. Also on deck is Singapore’s only SMARTfit™ Training facility – an interactive training wall designed to stimulate the body and brain concurrently.
Sofitel Krabi Phokeethra – SoSPA with L’Occitane amenities
5. Rejuvenate with a relaxing massage
Being away from your familiar comfort zone may be a little disorienting during bed time. Re-creating a similar setting is the key to a better night’s sleep with a relaxing spa treatment at SoSPA that can range from a 15-30 minute mini-treatment to a 45-90 minute signature treatment. At Sofitel Krabi Phokeethra Golf & Spa Resort, Thailand, one of the most unique treatments here is the Mommy & Me – a 90 minute delight for parent and child to enjoy together. Mom gets a red rice body scrub while the child gets a chocolate body wrap, then both jump into a fun shower to playfully rinse off. Later, mom (or dad) receive a warm coconut soother massage, while the child also receives a soothing massage. This treatment improves children’s quality of sleep and is great for strengthening immunity.

6. Work off your stress
Not just for maintaining your physique, exercising during the day while on vacation definitely helps to increase the chances of falling asleep at night. At Pullman Hotels & Resort, the brand’s wellness approach is based on four universal pillars of health: SLEEP, FOOD, SPORT and SPA. Each of the four pillars provides options for customization along four key fundamentals: age defense, energy boost, balance and detox. Developed in collaboration with Pullman’s Wellness Coach, Sarah Hoey, the Pullman wellness program is designed to help travellers adopt a healthier lifestyle. For FOOD, the program includes an Active Breakfast created by Sarah Hoey. Menu options encompass the four fundamentals of age defense, energy boost, balance and detox. Throughout the day, body and facial treatments at the SPA reflect the needs of the guest. Examples include: Dawn treatment to wake up gently; Daytime treatment to feel invigorated; Evening treatment to slow down. As with the breakfast menus, each treatment may be customized for age defense, energy boost, balance and detox. SPORT is addressed through a series of 7-minute videos available on YouTube. Guests may follow Sarah’s yoga and fitness routines in their guestrooms, or join in a group fitness class. A fitness bag and local jogging map are also provided. To encourage more restful SLEEP, a short guide to gentle stretching and exercise is provided: a morning routine enabling the body and muscles to wake up; and an evening routine to relieve tension accumulated during the course of the day. To date, Sarah has conducted various training classes and created the Fit Trail and Wellness Break at Park Lane Hong Kong, a Pullman Hotel, Pullman Arcadia Phuket and Pullman Bangkok King Power hotel as part of the Pullman Wellbeing experience. She will be leading various masterclasses at participating hotels across the network at a later stage.
