Entertainment Features on select cruises will include a series of traditional music performances and dancing competitions in styles popular with China’s older generation.
Shanghai, China – November 8, 2017 – Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) today announced an exciting series of theme cruise itineraries for Norwegian Joy, Norwegian Cruise Line's first purpose-built ship for China, which launched earlier this summer. Three themes including dancing, Shaoxing Opera, and Pingtan Musical Performances have been designed to appeal to older generations of cruisers and entertainment includes famous Shaoxing Opera troupes and Pingtan performers. Since the launch of Norwegian Joy in China, her cruise itineraries and on-board entertainment have proved very popular with multi-generational families travelling together. Norwegian Cruise Line is pleased to now offer more entertainment options to appeal to seniors enjoying the cruising lifestyle.
Starting from November, Norwegian Joy will feature three types of theme cruises tailored to the preferences of China’s senior citizen population, Dancing Group Cruises, Pingtan Musical Cruises, and Shaoxing Opera Cruises.
Dancing Group cruises will be designed to appeal to fans of group dancing as is popular with China’s seniors in public parks and squares in evenings. Norwegian Cruise Line will hold their first dance themed cruises with itineraries departing from Shanghai November 23rd and December 25th.The cruises will feature a dancing competition on board for dance enthusiasts with generous prizes.
Departing November 9th, Norwegian Joy will offer a special Pingtan Musical themed cruise featuring famed performers from the ‘Shanghai Pingtan’ and ‘Suzhou Pingtan’ performance troupes. Pingtan is a musical and oral performance art which dates back to the Song dynasty and combines story telling, jokes, music, and aria singing. Guests aboard the special theme cruise will have multiple opportunities to enjoy the performances of 6 renowned Pingtan performers.
Departing November 29th from Shanghai, a Shaoxing Opera themed cruise will be offered onboard Norwegian Joy featuring famed opera stars including Fang Ya Fang and Fan Tingting. Shaoxing Opera is one of the most popular variety of over 360 opera genres in China and highly popular in Shanghai and the surrounding regions and is known for an elegant and soft singing style. Norwegian Joy’s Shaoxing Opera theme cruise will feature four different opera shows including classic and well-known folk stories.
