Exclusive connoisseur events on February 4th, 9th, 12th, and 15th at prestigious resort are auspicious Chinese New Year celebrations for lovers of good life!
(Hong Kong, 7 December 2018) Ultra-exclusive Maldives getaway Velaa Private Island continues its tradition of hosting world-class wine tasting with four prestigious dinners welcoming the 2019 Chinese New Year showcasing Artémis Domains and the Bordeaux winemaker’s cult grand vin Château Latour.
Wine dinners on February 4th and 9th will be hosted by Mr. Hervé Berland, CEO of Château Monstrose, presenting connoisseurs with a golden opportunity to celebrate the Year of the Pig in auspicious style at the superbly luxurious resort.
Wine tasting for the dinners will be held at Velaa’s flagship gourmet restaurant Aragu. With a limit of 20 guests for the second edition of the island’s annual Wine Maker Events, early booking is highly recommended.
The first two dinners are headlined by four Château Latours – 1990, 1996, 2005 and 2008 – showcasing the most prestigious Cabernet Sauvignon–Merlot in the Médoc, at the tip of Pauillac.
Also introduced is a 2009 vintage of the estate’s second wine, Les Forts de Latour, and an introduction to 2011 and 2013 vintages of a distinguished northern Rhone wine in the group’s stable, Château Grillet.
Mr. Jean Garandeau, Sales and Marketing Director for Artémis Domains will lead the February 12th and 15th dinners showcasing 1989, 2000, 2003 and 2006 Château Latours, along with a 2010 Les Forts de Latour and an introduction to 2014 Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Sauvignon vintages of the group’s sister Napa Valley acquisition, Eisele Vineyard Estate.
“Latours is also one of the best-known First Growths among wine lovers in China,” said Velaa Private Island General Manager, Michal Smejc. “The Year of the Pig is associated with lovers of the good life, so the Chinese New Year timing of these exclusive dinners if especially timely.”
“Last year’s inaugural Wine Maker Event was hugely successful with an amazing panel of wine makers present, and this second edition is likely to be equally well-supported.”
The venue, Aragu is designed as an over-water escape that symbolizes elements of its natural surroundings, and offers contemporary European cuisine with an Asian twist. With daily arrivals of organic ingredients from around the world, Velaa’s signature gastronomic restaurant presents innovative culinary art fused with sustainable practices.

About Velaa Private Island
Nestled within the constellation of islands that form the Noonu Atoll in the Maldives, Velaa Private Island takes exclusivity to the next level with facilities and service that go beyond traditional resorts. Designed by award-winning Czech architect Petr Kolar as “an elegant fusion of Maldivian culture with contemporary luxury, intimate with Maldivian nuances”.
Velaa Private Island is the realisation of a dream to create a “beyond luxury” exclusive boutiqe hideaway in the Maldives. Velaa means “Turtle Island” in the local language – named after generations of sea turtles that flock there to nest and hatch. From a broader “bird’s eye view” which greets arrivals by seaplane, the island’s exlusive over-water villas are also constructed to resemble the head of a turtle, with the island forming the body.
The resort comprises 47 private villas, houses and exclusive residences. While 18 of the 47 are built over water, the Romantic Pool Residence can only be reached by boat, allowing even more privacy and exclusivity.
