HandsOn Hong Kong’s annual fundraising initiative Drink For Good returns to the city this October and for the first time it will be running across every Wednesday of the month. For every drink purchased at participating venues, 5% of sales will be donated to fund HandsOn programs for children with special needs.
Drink For Good allows Hongkongers to create positive social impact and give back to the local community while drinking at the city’s hot spots with friends or colleagues. Popular venues across Central, Lan Kwai Fong, Pacific Place, Sai Ying Pun and Soho are participating in the initiative including Commissary, Foxglove, Potato Head, RED Bar & Restaurant, Runway and Tivo.
Since the launch of Drink for Good in 2013 it has raised over HKD $400,000 for programs to support Hong Kong children with intellectual disabilities. In 2016 funds raised enabled HandsOn to provide volunteer services to NGO partners for 110 activities, serving 1,300 children with special needs, with the support of around 550 volunteers.
“It is fantastic to see Hong Kong’s citizens, bars, restaurants and corporates come together each year to do their bit for the local community by supporting Drink For Good,” says Sue Toomey, Executive Director of HandsOn Hong Kong. “Knowing that for every glass raised a student with intellectual disabilities will benefit is a powerful motivator for all our supporters. This year is even more exciting because people have the opportunity to support the cause four times in October—rather than just on one night as in years past.”
One of the participating venues, RED Bar & Restaurant has supported Drink for Good for the last four years. “Pure is committed to ensuring everyone in our team is a responsible and contributing corporate citizen, and we aim to improve the well-being of those in the communities we live in,” says Cristiane Ross, Head of Corporate Social Responsibility, Customer Experience and Corporate Accounts at The Pure Group. “We strongly believe in the incredible work HandsOn Hong does and we are proud to support many of their initiatives. We are delighted to see how the Drink For Good program has grown year after year. Bottoms up for a good cause!”
Each year there is also an option for corporate groups to “adopt” a venue for a night allowing them to host clients and colleagues at some of Hong Kong’s top venues—for these parties 30% of the booking will be donated to HandsOn. This year’s party hosts include Axiom, Colliers, Deacons, Ernest Maude, GLG, Kroll, Marriott and Vistra. Parties can be booked here through Drink For Good’s Online Partner, FeedMe Guru or you can contact Zoe Peña from HandsOn.
HandsOn Hong Kong are delighted to also have the support of Foodie Magazine as ‘Media Partner’, Lan Kwai Fong Association as a ‘Supporting Group’ and the following ‘Party Venues’: Alto, Aberdeen Street Social, Cassio, 208 Duecento Otto, Flint, Havana Bar, Oolaa, Oolaa Petite, Rula Bula, Shore and Tazmania Ballroom.

About HandsOn Hong Kong
HandsOn Hong Kong is a registered charity that mobilizes and empowers the community to meet pressing social needs in Hong Kong through volunteer services. HandsOn supports other under-served NGO’s by developing volunteer programs for them, and recruiting volunteers to support these activities. They do this work as a free public service, so that their non-profit partners can continue to further their missions and support the beneficiaries they serve. In 2016 alone HandsOn organized over 1,600 volunteer activities, serving more than 28,000 beneficiaries including disadvantaged children and youth, isolated elderly, refugees, ethnic minority students, under-resourced families and people with disabilities. You can volunteer to support one of these meaningful activities through their online calendar. www.handsonhongkong.org
