SHKP promotes healthy, sustainable living with early ecological education

Love Nature Campaign drawing competition winners with officiating guests at the prize presentation

The Love Nature Campaign, an initiative with the full support of Sun Hung Kai Properties Limited (SHKP) and organized by Green Power, recently held a prize presentation ceremony for a drawing competition to commend 36 winners from 17 elementary schools including the Tsung Tsin Primary School and Kindergarten, Methodist School and N.T. Women & Juveniles Welfare Association Ltd Leung Sing Tak Primary School. SHKP Executive Director and Deputy Managing Director Mr. Mike Wong and Green Power Chief Executive Officer Dr. Man Chi-sum were on hand for the presentation. The campaign is part of SHKP’s commitment to healthy, sustainable living and environmental education in the community.

The guests presented winning students with book coupons at the ceremony. Protecting the environment has long been a high priority for SHKP, as Mr. Mike Wong explained in describing its sustainability agenda: “SHKP considers protecting the environment essential to sustainable development and strives for the ideal throughout its operations. Kwai Fong’s Metroplaza, where the ceremony took place, follows SHKP’s effective guidelines and earned the title of Energy Project of the Year (Southeast Asia and Pacific Rim Region) from the US-based The Association of Energy Engineers in 2013.”

The Love Nature Campaign was expanded to teach kindergarten students to care for the environment in 2015. The Metroplaza exhibition from 20 to 25 June displayed the winning entries from the campaign’s 2014 competition, which had over 2,100 student entries with works including paintings, sketches and creative writing to inspire protection of the environment.

Since its launch in 2011, the Love Nature Campaign has combined elements of learning with appreciation and outdoor exploration to nurture the love of nature in children. Initiatives encouraging students and their families to help conserve the environment have included beach clean ups, school visits, competitions and exhibitions, along with training sessions and teaching materials provided to educators. The campaign has staged nearly 30 school visits and eco-tours that led over 15,000 primary students to explore the wonders of nature and work to protect the environment so far, and the 16 clean ups have collected nearly 13,000 kg of waste and recyclables to renew the countryside and coastal regions.
