TEDxTinHuaWomen returns with its yearly sold-out event, tickets are on sale now
Hong Kong – November 11, 2019 - TEDxTinHuaWomen unveils its diverse speaker lineup with a mix of speakers, performers and two networking sessions in the community fair for the December 6 event, themed “Bold & Brilliant *Without Apologies” at sky100 from 1pm - 7pm. The TEDxTinHauWomen annual talks are designed to showcase women and girls as change-makers and innovators in Hong Kong, as well as to provide a platform for sharing ideas important to the community. This year’s speaker lineup includes:
- Brenda Scofield, “Old & Bold - An Alternative Journey Through Life”
A former drama teacher, the one-time owner of Fetish Fashion and minority sexuality activist, a certified counsellor and a promoter of opera and chamber music through a family foundation.
- Chi Chi Cheng, “How I Found The Meaning of Fortune Through Art”
A multi-disiplinary artist who experiments with mixing different mediums such as food, participatory art, performance, sound, installations, paintings and videos.
- Dr. Angélica Anglés, “In the search of Life on Mars”
A planetary scientist, astrobiologist, astrophysicist (and pianist) whose research is centred around the search for extraterrestrial life on Mars. She is also part of the landing site selection team for the next NASA mission Mars 2020.
- Gigi Chao, “A billion dollar dowry, 10000 suitors and a love that cannot be celebrated”
An accomplished architect who was thrust into the spotlight in 2012 when she turned down her father's HKD500M dowry offer to any man who could walk her down the aisle. The complication? She is a lesbian already in a long term relationship.
- Jesamine Dyus, “The poet in all of us - reimagining the classic fairy tale”
A hip hop hobbyist and spoken word poet – specializing in slam poetry (a form of poetry that combines elements of performance, writing, competition, and audience participation).
- Ritu Hemnani, “An Inheritance Worth Sharing”
An author, journalist, teacher and voice actor who promotes inclusiveness and diversity through her writing.
- Valentina Tudose, “Embracing Unconditional Love”
A relationship coach, specializing in open relationships.
Together, the seven speakers with diverse backgrounds will explore the idea of how different people with varying perspectives and views can be Bold and Brilliant in their own ways. Being Bold takes individual courage, and being Brilliant rallies others to make change collectively. Audience members – both men and women alike – will be inspired to be Bold and Brilliant without having to apologise for it.
The Friday afternoon event also features four experiential zones by JPM, Allen and Overy, BAML and the TEDxTinHuaWomen committee. The experiential zones aim to help build local communities that create exponential impact, while providing attendees exposure to local sustainable brands including Glowgear Pro, Cosmo Crew, Retykle, Redress and more.
The December 6 event coincides with the global TEDWomen event to be hosted in Palm Springs, California. Held over a half-day, the program includes exclusive streaming of talks from the global TEDWomen event in Palm Springs, a line-up of local speakers with “ideas worth sharing”, networking and community activities. The Hong Kong “Bold & Brilliant” event is one of many TEDx events happening around the globe between December 4-6 that will expand on the ideas brought up at TEDWomen.
