Hong Kong International Deaf Film Festival proudly steps into its fifth year.【Hong Kong Arts Centre】co-presents this meaningful event with the Hong Kong Association of the Deaf, Asian People’s Theatre Festival Society, City University of Hong Kong and its School of Creative Media and Department of Social Sciences to give the impetus of Deaf culture in Hong Kong. We are happy to see that our society has paid more attention to the unique sensibility and vision of the Deaf communities through the Festival, incorporating the concept of social inclusion in their daily lives.
As the event is reaching a five-year mark, the volunteers attempt to broaden the scope of the film selection. Apart from a vast array of works from the Southeast Asia and Europe, they cherry-picked deaf films from the Middle East, India and North America. Over the past few years, the festival has served as a gate to connect the mainstream society and the deaf communities.
Drawing on the past and serving as a pioneer, we have invited deaf filmmakers from different Asian countries to host five sharing sessions in The First International Conference on Deaf Cinema, sharing with the local audiences and deaf filmmakers their experience and the ideal picture of deaf filmmaking. It provides the participants with opportunities to exchange views with the guests on different social issues such as Deaf rights, culture and identity.
