theDesk Opens its Stunning New Co-working Space at One Hysan Avenue

theDesk
28.11.2017, 05:45

Hong Kong co-working and events space company theDesk continues to put a spin on conventional co-working with its expansion into the bustling Causeway Bay community. To celebrate the launch, theDesk is thrilled to invite you to the opening of our beautiful new workspace at One Hysan Avenue on 8th December 2017.

(Hong Kong, 28 November 2017) — theDesk does co-working differently. Established in Hong Kong in June 2016, the company is on a mission to build inclusive community across the city’s diverse neighbourhoods.

theDesk bringing people together, building valuable relationships between members and the local community. The company’s unique take on co-working broadens networks and deepens trust, fostering greater business outcomes for all stakeholders. The expansion begins with a beautiful and well-designed workspace at One Hysan Avenue, spanning 5,077 square feet.

The opening marks the beginning of accelerated growth for the theDesk. After only one and a half years, its award-winning* space in Sai Ying Pun reached 80 percent occupancy.  To date, the workspace at One Hysan Avenue has already secured 40 percent occupancy pre-opening.

theDesk’s vision and inclusive community ethos are shared by landlord, Hysan Development Ltd. The corporation has established a close partnership with theDesk to build on the impressive work done in Sai Wan and bring the experience to the Causeway Bay community. As well as One Hysan Avenue, theDesk opens a sister site at Leighton Centre in early 2018.

An Inclusive Community Beyond the Space

theDesk is proud to be a homegrown company, deeply rooted in Hong Kong. While other co-working communities focus on benefiting paid members only, theDesk champions community building beyond the border of its physical spaces.

The diverse profile of members includes small medium enterprises (SMEs) working in education, non-profit, media, design and technology sectors. In addition, theDesk welcomes many multinational corporations (MNC) that include transportation, technology, event companies and more.

theDesk is known for welcoming underrepresented sectors of the working population, such as mumpreneurs, NGOs and local artists. What’s more, the company has built a strong reputation for proactively supporting the community through its not-for-profit media platform, The newsDesk Magazine. The widely-read digital shares members’ and community-related stories, events and news.

Building mutually beneficial ties with local business and service providers is part and parcel of theDesk’s unique approach. Members are able to enjoy perks with neighbouring businesses, such as discounted rates at restaurants and business services.

Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer Thomas Hui explains, “Many of our members are running established start-ups and SMEs. They often have an existing network. What they’re looking for a place to get their work done, and less of a social environment. They join us not only for our great locations but also for our commitment to creating an inclusive community. This is an ethos that supports business growth and enables people to extend their networks across the neighbourhood.”

Designed for Productivity and Flexibility

To create the new workspace at One Hysan Avenue, theDesk has partnered with multi-award winning firm Ida & Billy Architects. The design brief was to create a bright, tranquil and uncluttered space.

“People want and need privacy to be productive,” says Oscar Venhuis, Co-Founder and Chief Creative Officer. “A tranquil, well-lit space enables our members to focus on what matters most — getting their work done.”

In line with the company’s name, the interior emphasises the subtle line of the luxurious desks. “The desk height is a design narrative that runs throughout the space, as seen by the consistent heights of the black edges of desktops and black lines across the office,” Oscar explains.
