In our continuous efforts to gain key insights into the needs and preferences of our customers, we partnered with and sponsored Asian Private Banker to conduct a research study between February and September 2018 to examine the role of life insurance products in succession planning and wealth transfer among Asian HNW individuals (HNWIs) and ultra High Net Worth individuals (UHNWIs), with a special focus on Hong Kong and Singapore.
Asia is home to 6.2 million HNWIs whose investable assest amounted to US$21.6 trillion in 2017. China, being one of the fastest-growing HNW markets in Asia-Pacific after India, recorded a HNW population grew by 9.1% in 2017. As Asia’s wealth transits between generations, a new generation of HNWIs is on the rise, signaling a shift in mindset and wealth management priorities, in particular towards insurance products as a wealth creation and protection tool as well as in legacy planning which is a complicated process.
