For the tenth time in her career, Soile Yli-Mäyry brings her exhibition to Singapore, showcasing her work at Goshen Art Gallery, Millenia Walk from October 14-22, 2017. The exhibition is part of celebrations of Finland’s 100 years of independence, and one of Yli-Mäyry’s solo exhibitions in seven locations this year: New York, Copenhagen, Tokyo, Rome, Singapore, Mumbai and Dubai.
The “Digidream” exhibition is Yli-Mäyry’s 10th exhibition in Singapore, and it showcases 37 paintings with four main pieces. In her work, Yli-Mäyry examines the universal theme of humanity and people’s alienation from nature in the urban world.
“We live in a digital world, and by using modern technology we can easily communicate with people independent of their cultural background. In this “Digiworld” we have plenty of information, but this world does not necessarily have any contact on what happens inside a human. People are mentally very lonely. Art - music, literature and visual arts – can create bridges between people and show what really happens inside another person”, explains Yli-Mäyry.
Yli-Mäyry’s artwork has been exhibited in over 30 countries and 300 art exhibitions. She makes her paintings using a palette knife and uses paint in three ways: a thin even coat, thick lines, and scraping lines into the painted area for a three-dimensional look.
The Ambassador of Finland, H.E Mrs. Paula Parviainen is the Guest of Honour in the opening of Yli-Mäyry’s Digidream exhibition in Singapore.
"I am happy to welcome Soile Yli-Mäyry back to Singapore. Over the past 20 years she has found a firm supporter base here with her bright and colorful art works that bring a piece of Finland to Asia", says Mrs. Parviainen.
The exhibition is part of celebrations of Finland’s 100 years of independence, and organized by Suomi Finland 100 Singapore (SF100SG) and the Embassy of Finland in Singapore. With a variety of cultural events offered in Singapore during the jubilee year, SF100SG aims to build bridges between Singapore and Finland through arts.
