[Hong Kong. July 22, 2024] The musical "Sing Out”, the first Hong Kong musical with all student cast, received six awards at the 27th Hong Kong Drama Awards, returns with a new version starring students from local secondary schools at the forefront and behind the scenes. The show is set to make its grand comeback at the Grand Theatre of the Hong Kong Cultural Centre from August 23 to 25, 2024. This unique and meaningful youth musical has now opened ticket sales on the art-mate platform.
Organized by the Extension and Continuing Education for Life (EXCEL) of The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA), and sponsored by the Lee Hysan Foundation, this edition of the musical highlights the remarkable collaboration between seasoned theatrical creatives and the new generation. Approximately 70 students from Carmel Secondary School, Gertrude Simon Lutheran College, PAOC Ka Chi Secondary School, Ebenezer School - Home for the Visually Impaired, and the HKAPA Applied Learning Programmes will participate fully, from spotlight to backstage, showcasing a journey of arts x character education through their performances at the Grand Theatre, Hong Kong Cultural Centre.
"Sing Out" musical encapsulates both arts and character education through its 4D principles:
Discipline: Having a sense of teamwork and strict discipline.
Dedication: Wholeheartedly immersed with an attentive attitude toward the arts.
Self-Discovery: Experiencing self-discovery and pursuit during the process.
Delight: Making like-minded friends and enjoying endless fun.
Synopsis:
A confident and ambitious secondary school student, filled with youthful vigor, encounters young individuals from all walks of life. Together, they form an unconventional choir, determined to overcome past failures and rise to new heights. Unfortunately, their path towards pursuing their dreams is paved with challenges and setbacks. At the most bewildering crossroads, how will they rediscover their initial aspirations and emerge from the depths of despair? While searching for the meaning of music and life, will these "angry youths" transform into "passionate youths"?

Expanding the Development of Musical Theatre
EXCEL has been offering musical theatre training courses since 2002 and produces a significant summer musical for teenagers yearly. Through professional stage performance, dance, and vocal training, thousands of teenagers have been trained in musical theatre performances. This year, young artists and students from Carmel Secondary School, Gertrude Simon Lutheran College, PAOC Ka Chi Secondary School, Ebenezer School, Home for the Visually Impaired, and the HKAPA Applied Learning Programmes will embark on a journey filled with both artistic and character education.
Tickets for the premiere and subsequent performances of "Sing Out" were completely sold out, with over ten thousand audience members attending, making it a widely discussed topic. This year, the proceeds from ticket sales will be fully utilized to promote the development of youth musical theatre in Hong Kong and encourage positive growth to extend the "Artistic Inheritance, Journey of Growth. "
