Survey Outcome Release “Pandemic: Job Positions Permanently Disappear and New Economy Job Positions Needed”
SURVEY OBJECTIVES & RESPONSES
World New Economy Council Limited collected 388 responses from a survey titled “Pandemic: Job Positions Permanently Disappear and New Economy Job Positions Needed. The survey was conducted from mid-April to end-May 2020 to find out the respondents’ opinion about the old economy job positions which permanently disappear and the New Economy job positions in need, as a result of the accelerated evolvement to the New Economy due to the Pandemic lock-down.
FINDING - OLD ECONOMY JOBS TO DISAPPEAR
Out of the 388 respondents, 101 (26%) respondents named the Job Positions which they believe to permanently disappear. Of these jobs, 39% are administration-related; 20% are service-related, 11% are support-related; 8% are labour jobs; 6% are trainee positions, 5% are manager positions, 3% are professional jobs; 8% are others.
FINDING - NEW ECONOMY JOBS IN DEMAND
Out of the 388 respondents, 276 (71%) respondents name the Job Positions in demand as a result of New Economy transformation which is further accelerated by the pandemic. Of the jobs in need, 30% belongs to the job category related to New Economy I.T. development, 20% belongs to the job category related to and peripheral to healthcare ; 17% belongs to the job category related to and peripheral to E-commerce and social-media content ; 17% belongs to the job category related to and peripheral to work-at-remote-site or work-at-home & associated risk management; 3% are jobs on online training and 13% are other categories.
ABOUT THE RESPONDENTS
Out of the respondents, 131 (33.76%) work as professionals, 51 (13.14%) work in the Finance Industry, 12 (3.09%) work in trading and logistics Industry, 12 (3.09%) work in Real Estate Agents, 9 (2.32%) work in the inbound Travel Industry, 5 (1.29%) work in Airline, and 5 (1.29%) work in E-commerce Industry, 4 (1.03%) work in business support industry, 159 (40.99%) work in other industries.
Out of the 388 respondents, 226 (58.25%) are employees without any subordinates, 95 (24.48%) are supervisors who have subordinates, 37 (9.54%) are self-employed, 20 (5.16%) are employers paying salary and 10 (2.57%) are unemployed.
373 (96.13%) respondents discloses their company size: 229 (59.02%) work in company with 51 or above employees; 122 (31.44%) work in companies with 1 to 50 employees, 22 (5.67%) disclosed that they work for their own.
60 (15.46%) respondents reported that their companies have employee number decreased by less than 10% and 22 (5.67%) respondents reported that their companies have employee number decreased by more than 10%. On the contrary, 24 (6.19%) respondents reported that their companies have increased employee number by less than 10% and 12 (3.09%) respondents reported that their companies have increased employee number by more than 10% during the surveyed period. The remaining respondents (69.59%) responded no change in the employee number in their companies.
Out of the 388 respondents, 101 (26.03%) respondents have provided the job positions which, in their opinion, permanently disappear even after the pandemic.
Out of the 388 respondents, 276 (71.13%) respondents have provided New Economy job positions in need to adapt to the changes caused by the pandemic.
372 (95.88%) respondents reported that their companies are still in operations, 3 (0.77%) respondents reported that their companies are closed and 13 (3.35%) respondents reported that their companies are closed temporarily.
176 (45.36%) respondents confirmed that their companies have adopted to a new business model/new way of operation.
300 (77.32%) respondents confirmed that their companies have applied new technology to adapt to new business or operation models under the pandemic while 88 (22.68%) respondents confirmed that their companies have not applied new technology during the period.
