Lani Nasayao, a brain tumor survivor, mother of four, and entrepreneur, aims to makes life better for Hong Kong through spreading awareness of healthy cooking.
When diagnosed with a brain tumor in 2003, mother of four, Lani Nasayao’s life was changed. After her surgery, she immediately began to seek out healthy solutions for her recovery. “My doctor advised me to live a healthier lifestyle, to stay away from red meats and to have a plant-based diet.” With her newfound free-time and recommended diet, she found herself wanting to cook healthier meals, not only for herself but for her family as well. After being introduced to Saladmaster, a non-toxic cookware system, Nasayao began her road to recovery.
“Nutrition and healthy cooking was made even more apparent to me after my surgery. Not only was I more conscious of the food I was eating, but also the cookware I was using.” According to a study by Food Science and Biotechnology (2018), the materials used in your kitchenware and your cooking process affects the nutritional quality of your food. In the same way medical instruments are made with Titanium because of its biocompatibility, Saladmaster is a cookware system made from 316 Titanium Stainless Steel. It was then that Nasayao decided she needed to introduce the idea of non-toxic cookware to the Hong Kong community. She established LS5 Health and Wellness in 2015, an Authorized Saladmaster dealership located in Sheung Wan. “With Hong Kong’s quality of life falling behind, it’s especially important for me to bring awareness about dangerous cookware and how it can affect our diet.” Not only is Nasayao passionate about this advocacy, but strongly encourages families to cook together to create lasting bonding memories and teach valuable skills. Since then Saladmaster has made its mark in Hong Kong, being awarded the “Best Cookware in Hong Kong” in 2018 by MediaZone Hong Kong and is nominated again this year.

Mother to four adorable daughters, Lani is originally from the Philippines and has been living in Hong Kong for about 26 years. She was diagnosed with a brain tumor whilst pregnant with her second daughter and subsequently survived treatment. Lani was advised by her doctor to switch to better quality cookware prompting a personal quest to find what would be most suitable. Eventually discovering SaladmasterTM – a top of the range cookware using 316Ti steel made from steel mills in the US and Switzerland - Lani wants to share her knowledge of the benefits with others facing similar health challenges and all those who simply want to give the best to their family.
