A Japanese Juxtaposition

Sushi Zo and Gishiki Lounge Launch in Hong Kong’s Tai Kwun in April

Hong Kong, 12 March 2019 – This Spring will see the opening of two new Japanese concepts exuding style and intimacy, in Hong Kong’s centre for heritage and arts, Tai Kwun.

World famous Japanese Chef and Sushi Zo Founder, Keizo Seki will bring his esteemed omakase restaurant to the lower ground floor of Tai Kwun’s historical Police Headquarters this spring.

Known for its Michelin Star in LA, Sushi Zo is often rated as the best omakase dining experience in Bangkok, New York City and Tokyo.

Meaning “I’ll leave it to you” omakase dining at Sushi Zo is a committed experience, shifting the paradigm of the guest chef relationship and completely empowering the chef. With only two sittings per day for a maximum of 14 people, the chef is entrusted to create the menu each night based on the freshest fish and ingredients, flown in daily from Japan.

Three Executive Japanese Chefs will create elaborate and ever-changing dishes from individual stations, directly in front of guests at a stylish sushi bar. Offering guests an extremely theatrical and personalised 18-dish experience. The seafood is carefully selected, prepared and presented one dish at a time, when flavor, temperature and texture are in a harmonized ‘Sushi Zo state’ (known as Ittai-kan). An 18 dish menu will be priced at HK$2,500 per person, with sittings at 6-7:45pm and 8-9:45pm daily.

Gishiki Lounge - meaning ‘ritual’ in Japanese – will be a first of its kind, an otherworldly cocktail lounge representing a mischievous alternative to the elegant sushi restaurant it is situated beside.

Messiah of cocktails, mixologist Billy Lau will lead a team of four, embracing Japanese rituals with a selection of 18 libations set to blow your mind. The menu will feature cocktails made from flavored ice blocks pressed into the shape of Hannya masks, exclusive Gishiki label gold leaf sake and live siphon brewed spirits, served over dry ice. Gishiki Lounge will specialise in an unrivalled selection of international craft spirits, signature sakes and organic wines.

Based on the Japanese myth of the Hannya – powerful scorned women bound to inhuman form – Gishiki Lounge will entice and excite guests with a beautiful female centerpiece ornamenting the bar. A focal design of the bar, a mythical Gishiki sculpture adorns the wall to symbolize breaking free from her Hannya body and transforming into her most powerful female form. Cocktails will take names of Japanese ‘Noh Theatre’ characters, inviting guests to revel in the tales of Japan’s cultural history.

Conceived by Futura Hospitality CEO Daryl Scott, the nightclub guru will tell the story of Japan’s past with an eclectic variety of entertainment. From exotic performances embracing historical nuances of geisha, to contemporary late night DJs, introducing guests to experimental Asian electronica and future funk tunes.

Raising the bar for omakase experiences and offering revelers an entirely new form of escapism through the cocktail realm, Gishiki Lounge and Sushi Zo are set to elevate the exclusive Japanese dining and drinks scene in Hong Kong.
