(Hong Kong, 20 August 2019) — As the Hong Kong summer continues and the balmy nights are going nowhere soon, Berry Bros. & Rudd present a seasonal selection of favourite wines and spirits. Fit for barbeques and brunches alike, here are the best cooling cocktails to keep on sipping through summer.
Drink Pink and Sparkling
Synonymous with summertime, rosé continues to be one the most popular choices for the season and when lifted by the sparkling fizz of champagne, it’s the best of both worlds. Bubbly lovers can drink pink with Champagne Thiénot Brut Rosé, a bubbly blend of 45% Pinot Noir, 35% Chardonnay and 20% Meunier. This rosé features a delicate aroma driven by luscious red fruits with raspberries and rose on the nose, while a smooth creamy palate gives way to the freshness of pink grapefruit for an elegant glass of sparkling.
White Wine Spritzers: Less is More
With the trend for low-ABV (alcohol by volume), and lighter drinks going from strength to strength it’s all about consuming less but drinking better. Berry Bros. & Rudd suggest some impressive bottles for white wine spritzers that mix well and simply with club soda or sparkling water. The Château Rahoul Blanc, Graves, 2016 is an aromatic blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon with lingering fruity notes of ripe peach and pear. It’s bright on the palate with balanced acidity and a mineral character that makes for a clean finish. Add plenty of ice, soda water and a squeeze of fresh lime for a classic fizz.
Another easy breezy option is the Drouhin Oregon Roserock Chardonnay, 2016. This supple wine is rippled with green apples, melon and citrus before finishing with nutty overtones and juicy stone fruits, which is perfect for a spritzer muddled with fresh berries and mint or with a dash of bitters for complexity.
Relax with Red: A Sangria Siesta
Whether you’re starting the party or winding down for siesta, a refreshing glass of red sangria is always a good idea. Berry Bros. & Rudd suggest a crimson bottle of Chateau Grand Barrail Lamarzelle Figeac, St. Emilion, 2012 for a sweetly perfumed punch. Its soft tannins, laid back hints of dark fruit, plum and cedar adds the perfect undercurrent of flavour. Simply mix with a good brandy, orange juice and ripe seasonal fruit for a sensational thirst-quencher on those hot summer days.
Ginspiration
Light, refreshing and aromatic, gin can be said to be the ideal spirit of summer. It’s no wonder the classic G&T remains a crowd-pleasing favourite, but why stop there when Berry Bros. & Rudd London Dry Gin can provide a softer and more approachable botanical base for contemporary craft cocktails. Leaning on the popularity of herbaceous cocktails of the vegetal variety, Berry Bros. & Rudd recommend a healthy pour of the London Dry Gin, mixed with refreshing cucumber and mint, sprinkled with salt and pepper for that savoury edge to your garden gimlet.
The award-winning No.3 London Dry Gin is presented as a small green vial in the summer offer and perfect for gifting, favours or as a little treat. Its name, which also refers to the Berry Bros. & Rudd address in London’s St. James’s Street, marks this vividly bright gin as a triple triumph made up of ‘3 fruits’ and ‘3 botanicals’. Brace for the juniper with fierce spicy tones, which makes classic martinis or gin and tonics worthy of the No.1 spot.
