(Hong Kong, January 24, 2018) – Mix a Lo Hei salad to bless friends and relatives with tokens of love and well wishes in the Year of the Dog and place a lai see in the wishing tree to bring good fortune to a homeless dog through Hong Kong Dog Rescue.
Lobster Lo Hei salad and other traditional delicacies
There’s no dish more associated with Chinese New Year than Lo Hei salad, which hails from the fishing villages of Southern China in the Song Dynasty more than 750 years ago. Served in the centre of the table on a large platter, guests equipped with large chopsticks, mix and toss the fresh fish slices, vegetables and Hutong’s special spices and sauces high into the air exclaiming ‘Lo Hei….Lo Hei’. According to legend, the higher you toss and the louder you cry ‘Lo Hei’, the more luck is headed your way!
For the month of February, Hutong is serving a Traditional Lo Hei salad featuring mouth-watering Hamachi and Salmon fillets with fresh radish and vegetable slices to be mixed with chef’s secret-recipe aromatic spices and sauces priced at $1,388 (ideal for up to 6 people). For those looking for a new take, there’s a gourmet Lobster Lo Hei featuring fresh lobster slices instead of fish, at $1,888.
Lo Hei salad also features on Hutong’s Spring Dinner menu for four people. The menu showcases a full line up of 12 traditional Chinese New Year dishes including Wok seared radish cake with Sakura shrimps and Slow-cooked oyster with black mushrooms & sea moss. Hutong Spring Dinner menu is available in February for $4988 for four people.
Help Biggy - a homeless dog – through Hong Kong Dog Rescue
Every year in Hong Kong several thousand dogs are born homeless. The charity Hong Kong Dog Rescue (HKDR) has cared for and re-homed more than 7,500 dogs since its founding in 2003.
This Year of the Dog, Hutong is sponsoring HKDR’s Life Saver Club for Biggy, a shy but sweet loving brown and white patch dog that came to HKDR seven years ago and has yet to find a new home.
Throughout February, Hutong’s guests can partake in a Chinese New Year tradition – make a donation in a special lai see packet and place it high in the Hutong Wishing Tree to make a wish come true for Biggy. All proceeds go to HKDR Life Saver Club which buys shelter, food, medicine and love for Biggy for the year.
