‘On the Road’ with Uma Nota

The Street Food of São Paulo Goes on Tour in Hong Kong and Macau

(Hong Kong, 2 March 2018) Brazilian Japanese street food restaurant Uma Nota is on the move this March, bringing São Paul’s favourite street food & cocktails to Hong Kong and Macau at various pop-up events.

It all starts at IRIS, to bring the vibrancy of Brazilian street food culture with an environmentally conscious approach before hopping over to Macau for a lively pop-up at Vida Rica Bar in the Mandarin Oriental, followed by a guest appearance, with Sai Ying Pun’s casual izakaya OKRA, at Taste of Hong Kong.

On 23 March, Uma Nota will also participate in Earth Hour – pledging its support to the world’s largest movement in environment and climate change by removing all non-essential lights and allowing guests to enjoy candle-lit dinners from 8:30pm – 9:30pm.

Starting with Sustainability – Uma Nota at IRIS from 3rd to 4th March

Since its opening, Uma Nota has been committed to drive sustainable initiatives and as a strong environmentally friendly food & restaurant player, they have gone straw-less, use recyclable containers and utensils, and actively participate in a neighbourhood ‘Glass Bottle Recycling Program’.

As part of this continued focus, the restaurant is proud to announce its participation at Hong Kong’s largest health & wellness festival IRIS, whichattracts over 6,000 participants over the weekend, to encourage a more sustainable mind-set and reduce waste at community events in addition to everyday life.

On both days, festival goers can enjoy Uma Nota’s refreshing Vegetarian Ceviche which has a medley of tomatoes, mushroom, avocado and red onion served with a punchy coriander & morones salsa, along with Polvo ao vinagrete, a brightly mixed salad bursting with flavour and fresh octopus, tomato and red onion.

Movement in Macau – Uma Nota at Vida Rica from 9th to 10th March

For two nights only, Uma Nota will be offering the authentic flavours of São Paulo to guests at the Vida Rica Bar in the Mandarin Oriental Macau.

Guests can enjoy the fantastic views of Macau’s impressive skyline while sampling from a choice of 6 Uma Nota signature dishes including, but not limited to, Dadinhos de tapioca; little cubes of deep-fried tapioca and cheese and Ceviche goa fresh succulent pieces of white fish, squid and shrimp in tangy coconut and curry milk, known traditionally in Brazil as the “tigers milk”.

To wash it all down are a selection of Uma’s Nota’s best 6 cocktails such as the Classic caïpirinha, made with the Brazilian sugar cane rum (cachaça), lime and sugar or the Paulista, created with sake, Aperol, lychee and pink berries pepper shrub for a touch of Japanese.

Temping Taste buds – Uma Nota at Taste of Hong Kong on 23rd March

Uma Nota’s Chef Gustavo will join hands with Okra Kitchen’s Chef Levy to create an exclusive dish at Hong Kong’s most anticipated event for foodies, Taste of Hong Kong on 23 March. The dish will be a take on the Nanbanzuke; a traditional Japanese fried fish dish in a seasoned vinegar marinade. Instead, dry aged pompano fish is marinated in a seasoned vinegar for which, tucupi (a golden cassava juice; made from wild manioc root in Brazil's Amazon jungle) has been used alongside Japanese dashi, Chipotle vinegar, as well as red onion, cucumber and spring onion for crunch.

About Uma Nota

Uma Nota is a modern boteco, which in Brazil is traditionally known as a meeting place for those looking for a refreshing drink and good street food in a fun, easy-going setting.

Nestled at the corner of Hollywood Road and Peel Street, the Brazilian Japanese restaurant & bar brings São Paulo’s Nipo-Brasileiro street food and cocktails to Soho.

Offering a unique twist to a long heritage of Japanese migration to Brazil, the restaurant has adapted a menu to include local ingredients featuring dishes that combine Japanese cooking techniques with fresh, authentic and unique São Paulo flavours.

Uma Nota is unpretentious, open-minded, and lively. This is reflected in its design, its food, its drinks and its vibe; playing music that is a mix of both old school and modern Brazilian, Latin and International beats.
