The Finland 100 Expo, celebrating Finland’s 100th anniversary of independence, will take place 10th of May in the SME Centre inside the HKCEC at 12-5 pm. An opportunity to get to know Finnish businesses and culture, the Expo welcomes over 30 exhibitors from Finland and is open to the public free of charge. In addition to the exhibitors from various fields of business, the Expo will showcase aspects of Finnish culture through traditional food and drinks as well as famous figures including Santa Claus, the Moomintroll and Angry Birds.
The one-day Expo will feature four thematic areas: Food and Beverages, Design & Lifestyle, Innovation and Education. Three panel discussions set throughout the day will highlight these areas with expert speakers from Hong Kong, Finland and abroad sharing their knowledge and experiences.
Strengthening Collaboration Between Finland and Hong Kong
Finland’s reputation as a technology and innovation wonder is fast garnering more international attention. This year Finland is celebrating 100 years of independence, a big number for any country. To mark the centenary the Finnish Chamber of Commerce, the Consulate General of Finland and Invest Hong Kong are organizing the Finland 100 Expo for the first time ever.
At the Finland 100 Expo visitors can expect to engage with a vast array of companies ranging from Finnish elevator and innovation expert KONE, eclectic design house Marimekko to organic chocolate manufacturer Goodio. Technology and digital innovations will also be strongly present at the Expo when for example Finland’s number one airline Finnair will showcase their new cabin innovations through a Virtual Reality headset.
Throughout the day visitors have the option to join different panel discussions focusing around the three thematic areas. Starting at 1 pm four experts from Finland will discuss the drivers behind the innovation environment of Finland: how a country with a population of only five million can produce so many innovations? At 2 pm the discussion will move to education when panelists will examine the differences between the education systems of Finland and Hong Kong and how the Finnish system could be applied locally. At 3:15 pm visitors have the chance to learn how to make the world’s best Gin & Tonic with award winning Napue Gin. Finally at 4 pm both local and Finnish experts will discuss the sustainability of food production from the Nordic perspective.
