FINNCHAM’S CELEBRATE FINLAND 100 GALA

Finland is Celebrating 100 Years of Independence in 2017
The Celebrate Finland 100 Gala, commemorating Finland’s 100th anniversary of independence, will take place 9th of December at the American Club in Tai Tam starting from 7pm. An annual tradition, this year’s Gala welcomes over 200 guests, both Finnish and friends of Finland. In addition to a specially designed Finland 100 dinner menu, the Gala will showcase Finnish culture through Northern drinks, a surprise fashion show and famous figures such as Santa Claus.
Organised by the Finnish Chamber of Commerce together with the Consulate General of Finland, the Celebrate Finland 100 Gala will be the highlight of the centenary year celebrations in Hong Kong. The party will gather a record number of friends of Finland, from both Finnish and interntational communities, together under one roof. To commemorate the anniversary the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Mrs. Carrie Lam, will also be joining the celebrations.
The executive chef of Hong Kong’s celebrated Nordic restaurant FINDS, Mr. Jaakko Sorsa, has designed a special Finland 100 menu for the event. The four course menu will focus on showcasing the flavours of the North through signature dishes such as sugar-salted salmon and Karelian stew. To complement the food guests can also enjoy Finnish flavors in drinks such as Glöet, a sparkling mulled wine perfect for Christmas time, and the award-winning Napue gin.
Entertainment for the evening will feature both Finnish and international music with star performers Ida Elina and Katri Somerjoki & Niittisydän. As the world’s first popkantele player, Ida Elina will introduce Finland’s national instrument through familiar pop tunes as well as original songs. Katri Somerjoki and her band Niittisydän will warm up the dancefloor with a jazzy sound and performance paying homage to Finnish and international legends.

In addition to food and beverages and entertainment guests will also be able to discover the latest trends in Finnish evening wear design as five designers will showcase selected outfits in a surprise fashion show. Confirmed names include Katri Niskanen, Riikka Ikäheimo, Liisa Riski and Minna Parikka, all celebrated for their unique Northern look.
Gitta Hägg-Lundvall,Executive Director of the Finnish Chamber of Commerce describes the evening: “We’ve given our annual Gala the centenary makeover, exploring new ways to showcase what makes Finland unique while making sure the guests enjoy the party of the century.”
