(Hong Kong – 11 February, 2019) Opera Gallery Hong Kong is proud to exhibit at Art Central 2019 with an exceptional array of dynamic artworks incorporating a broad range of artistic and geographical differences. The Opera Gallery exhibition will be the largest at this year’s event and will reflect the inter-continental and contemporary focus of the gallery.
From 26 – 31 March, the Opera Gallery booth will exclusively showcase the enthralling work of participating artists like Andy Denzler, David Kim Whittaker, Manolo Valdés and Cho Sung-Hee along with a never-before-seen special installation by Joe Black.
Encompassing both well-known and emerging talents, Opera Gallery highlights include Spanish artist Manolo Valdés ‘golden age’ sculptures and Joe Black’s remarkable six metre Mao Zedong. The booth will also feature a body of distinguished works by popular Japanese artist Yoshimoto Nara who is renowned for his non confirmative, thought provoking portraits of children and animals. Andy Denzler’s thick textured static and distorted paintings weave photorealism with gestural expression in his original style of painting.
Established masterpiece artists will include Marc Chagall, renowned for his modern poetic and figurative technique, and Chu Teh Chun’s well known ‘East meets West’ fusion techniques will also be highlighted.
In anticipation of Art Week and the celebration of Hong Kong’s vibrant art scene this coming March, British transgendered artist David Kim Whittaker will be showcasing work in Asia for the first time, exclusively with Opera Gallery Hong Kong. Following many successful shows in North America and Europe, an additional 12 paintings from Whittaker will be presented on the first floor of Opera Gallery on Wyndham Street from 25 March.
Presenting a metaphysical core that questions the existential basis of the “self”, Whittaker is a British self-taught artist, who takes interest in reflecting the facial form. Focusing on silhouetted portraits, delicate water-based paints are used, followed by primal and aggressive oil strokes to illustrate a juxtaposed male and female energy.
