Hong Kong, September 6, 2018: In less than 3 weeks the 13th edition of the Asia Contemporary Art Show will open. The only contemporary art fair in the Fall, the Show opens on September 28th and continues until October 1st at the Conrad Hong Kong. As the longest-running and most successful hotel art fair in Asia, the Show will feature artworks: original paintings, limited editions, sculpture and photography by some of the world's most interesting and promising artists.
Beginning on Friday, September 28th, arts patrons and select guests will be welcomed at the exclusive UnionPay Private View, followed by the invitation-only UnionPay VIP Collectors Preview. General admission opens on Saturday, September 29th and continues until Monday, October 1st.
“At the Asia Contemporary Art Show, we’re always striving for an exciting mix of art, including some surprises,” remarked Show Director Mark Saunderson, “This 13th edition is no exception, introducing a number of new artists to show visitors including Lau Chun Tao and Chow Chi Shen from Hong Kong, Chinese sculptor Wang Liwei, Taiwan artist Hong-Hsin, Chen, British urban contemporary artist D*Face, Irish artist Vincent Devine whose new series deconstructs the subconsciousness, and Aung Myint, Myanmar’s pioneering performing and experimental artist.”
“The Asia Contemporary Art Show is delighted to sponsor Connecting Myanmar in their charity exhibition and sale of Aung Myint’s works at the Show. A well-known artist whose works are collected by notable institutions such as the Guggenheim, the exhibition will include pieces from his famous Mother and Child series, which uses single, unbroken lines of black acrylic to evoke the intimate physical connection between the two figures. Connecting Myanmar, a registered charity in Hong Kong, aims to inspire young people to think critically with an empathetic lens by connecting Myanmar and Hong Kong youths. Proceeds from the exhibition will go toward scholarships supporting Myanmar students in their studies abroad.”
Saunderson continues, “Over the years many people have asked me the same question: How do you go about collecting art? Well, the motivation is certainly different for every collector. Keita Komiyama, owner of Komiyama Tokyo, a store that sells art and vintage books on art, photography, literature and history, started to collect works as a student. With an approach to collecting that is both planned as well as organic, Komiyama collects what appeals to him. Today the focus of his collection is on pop and street art which has growing appeal in Japan for its strong imagery and vibrant social commentary. You can see works from Komiyama’s collection including those by Tadanori Yokoo, D*Face, and Invader, whose ceramic tiled works are dotted around Hong Kong, at the upcoming Show.”

D*Face (b. 1973) is a leading figure in Urban Contemporary Art, starting his career on the streets over 15 years ago by hand-drawing stickers and posters, adhering them all over the streets of London and beyond for the unsuspecting public to discover. In 2006 he opened the "Stolen Space Gallery" which he owns in Brick Lane in East London so that his companions and talented youngsters can freely release works.

Irish artist Vincent Devine debuts his hugely popular "Ambigutree Series" and his new "Neo-Dimensionism" work at this year’s Asia Contemporary Art Show. Subconscious undertones have always been prevalent in his work and he continues to defy categorisation as an artist of a certain genre due to his constant fluctuation into new and exciting styles in his painting practice. His work has been lauded by some of the biggest celebrities in the world, some of which include Shakira, Will-I-Am, Madonna and Lady Gaga.

Wang Liwei (b. 1983) decided to explore the use of soft materials in the language of sculpture. Rejecting common materials such as clay, wood or iron, Wang began to experiment with leather. Each piece is individually crafted over a resin core. By choosing not to sew pieces together but rather to expose joining seams on the outside of the sculptures, the seams become part of the ornamentation. The results are unique sculptures with clearly defined lines and silhouettes.

Before becoming a central member of the Gutai, Sadamasa Motonaga (1922-2011) was a cartoonist and manga illustrator. As a self-taught artist, Montanaga was inspired by his natural surroundings and nature itself, taking interest in aqueous qualities, fluidity of pain, water and the natural phenomena of gravity. Motonaga experimented with the liquid properties of paint and water thus creating "the world's first water sculpture" named, 'Work (Water)' 1956, installations with pools of colored water suspended in vinyl tubes.

Keita Sagaki (b. 1984) immersed himself at a very young age in the world of Japanese anime and comics, spending hours drawing countless cartoon characters tapping his innocent and ingenuous imagination. Soon his works were influenced by mandala-style art, re-illustrating the paintings from recognized painters and applying the concept of ‘whole and part’ of Mandala (Buddhism) which defines his concept of ‘deconstructing’ and ‘reconstructing’ a painting.

Shen Jingdong (b. 1965) is an internationally recognized contemporary Chinese artist. An acclaimed contemporary artist of the Chinese new wave, his works depict soldiers and workers as icons of Chinese life rendered in blue, green, yellow or red, showcasing his fellow servicemen, with techniques that stray away from traditional realism. Lydia Moawad (b. 1965) is one of Lebanon’s most renowned contemporary painters. Lydia Moawad’s art is an exploration of color, movement, and emotions. Working with a high vibration of positive energy, the feeling comes from the core and spreads between the conception and the creation, the colors and shapes find their places spontaneously and the work becomes its own source of inspiration.

Invader (b. 1969) is the pseudonym for a French urban artist, who defines himself as an UFA, an Unidentified Free Artist. Using the 1978 arcade game Space Invaders as the subject for an ongoing project, his work is composed of square ceramic tiles modelled on 8-bit video games. Using ‘guerrilla’ tactics he calls ‘invasion waves’, Invader installs these ‘Space Invaders’ in public places within targeted cities, liberating art from its usual alienators that museums or institutions can be.

Jean-Marc Peyer (b. 1948) was born in Switzerland of French-Swiss nationality and has been living in the South of France since 1993.
