PRESS RELEASE
Banyan Tree Hotels & Resorts
Commemorates World Environment Day
Raising awareness about plastic pollution during Greening Communities Together
Hong Kong, June 5 2018 – In commemoration of World Environment Day, Banyan Tree Hotels & Resorts will conduct community clean-ups across all their properties from 4 to 10 June 2018. This is part of the Group’s annual Stay For Good initiative – Greening Communities Together.
Following Banyan Tree’s pledge to eliminate single-use plastic by Earth Day 2020, the Group will focus on beating plastic pollution with the message “if you can’t reuse it, refuse it”. Cleaning communities will be a core component of the Greening Communities Together initiative, with awareness campaigns and social/environmental guest engagement activities. This aligns with the United Nation’s sustainable development goals of responsible consumption and production, climate action, life below water and life on land.
During the week, associates and guests will be encouraged to clean, conserve and connect. Guests in the Maldives properties of Banyan Tree Vabbinfaru, Angsana Ihuru and Angsana Velavaru will be cleaning up the local islands of Bandheedo, Meedho and Villingili. Banyan Tree, Angsana and Cassia Bintan guests will visit and clean neighbouring Kampong Bahru beach. Hotel guests will also get to admire signature attractions and stunning landscape while cleaning up local communities, such as Banyan Tree Bangkok guests who will visit the iconic Lumpini Park, Banyan Tree Club & Spa Seoul guests to Mount Namsan, Banyan Tree Yangshuo guests to Fuli Town and Banyan Tree Mayakoba guests to Playa del Carmen amongst others.
Since its inception in 1994, Banyan Tree Hotels & Resorts has embarked on a journey of stewardship and honoured its commitment towards the environment and communities through its philosophy of “Embracing the Environment, Empowering People”. This initiative is part of the Group’s commitment as a sustainable tourism brand.
