presents

Hot Music

26.10.2021 (Tuesday, 8:00pm)

Hong Kong City Hall Concert Hall

----

On 26 October 2021, Tuesday, at the Hong Kong City Hall Concert Hall, 8:00pm, City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong will take audiences on a fascinating musical journey back to Berlin’s “Golden Twenties” era. Music by three prominent Jewish composers will be featured, all of whom spent a part of their careers in pre-war time Berlin which was the hotbed of literature, cinema, architecture, visual art and theatre in Europe at the time. Schulhoff’s Hot-Sonate for solo saxophone and ensemble, a jazz-classical hybrid piece sizzling with jazz idioms and jaunty rhythms, forms the centre piece of the evening. Alongside it, CCOHK will perform Stefan Wolpe’s sensually charged Tango for Irma (dedicated to his lover Irma Schoenberg) and Kurt Weill’s cabaret inspired Little Threepenny Music which is orchestrated for a heady mix of saxophones, winds, percussion, accordion, piano and banjo. Locally based Welsh saxophonist Joshua Jones and guest conductor Colin Touchin headline this unique concert.

Joshua Jones studied with the great classical saxophonist Johan van der Linden and has performed with the trailblazing Nederlands Blazers Ensemble. Originally from Wales, he is a two-time winner of the June Emerson Wind Music Launchpad Prize and a finalist of Sir Ian Stoutzker Prize in the UK for the Most Outstanding Musician. He has performed for HRH The Prince of Wales. In 2017 he moved to Hong Kong and is currently a saxophone instructor at M.int Academy Limited.

Ticket priced at $450, $320, $200 with half-price concessions for full-time students, senior citizens, people with disabilities, and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance recipients, are available from all URBTIX outlets.
